Old Stone Mill, Newport, RI

One of the most
controversial structures in America, this mysterious stone tower,
known to locals as the Old Stone Mill, is located in Touro Park
close to Newport's historic Bellevue Avenue. For centuries the
origin of the tower has been argued by historians and locals
alike. Some believe the structure was built by Norse men long
before Columbus' voyage to the new world while others feel the
structure was built in the 17th century Colonial era. Evidence
supports both theories. So was it built in the 11th or 17th
century? We might never know!
