Welcome to Iggy's Home
Page. Iggy is a common green iguana and is Matt's pet. He is about
8 years old and eats mostly vegetables and fruits. For all those animal activists out there...he was domestically raised and not plucked from his home habitat as so many are.
Igor D. Iguana is 38 inches long (over 3 feet) and was
abused as a baby. I acquired him from the abuser during my college days of yester year. Iguana Facts
-
Iguanas are folivores, which means that in their natural habitat they dine
almost exclusively on leaves.
-
A properly cared for adult iguana will be LARGE - up to 6 feet long!
-
Contrary to the common misconception, they are not limited in size by the
size of their enclosure.
-
Iguanas must have a source of UV light! Without it, their bodies cannot
manufacture vitamin D3 or properly metabolize calcium.
-
Iguanas require high humidity as well as high temperatures. High humidity prevents iguanas from getting dehydrated and helps them shed.
-
The key to a healthy diet for iguanas is variety! The more variety you offer, the less the chance of feeding too much of one thing and not enough of something else.
